1. Getting Started with SumGST

Creating Your Firm Workspace

To set up your practice, visit the registration page and provide your firm name and mobile number. You will receive immediate access to your 14-day free trial without needing to enter payment card details.

Adding Your First Client GSTIN

From the Clients workspace, click Add Client GSTIN. Enter the client’s trade name, 15-character GSTIN, filing scheme (Monthly GSTR-1 or QRMP Quarterly), and assign a customer mobile number. If the customer already exists across other GSTINs in your firm, you can link the new registration directly to their existing mobile login.

2. The Customer Upload Portal

How Clients Access the Portal

Your business clients do not need to navigate complex software. They sign in at the Customer Portal (`/user/login`) using their authorized mobile number and password.

Selecting Selling Platforms

Clients choose their active selling channels (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, direct sales spreadsheets, etc.). The portal then displays the required file slots for the selected return month.

Confirming Completion

Once all required monthly reports (XLSX, CSV, or supported ZIP archives) are uploaded, the client clicks Confirm All Files Uploaded. This timestamped receipt notifies your firm that the month is ready for CA review.

3. Reconciliation & Investigating Exceptions

Working Summary vs. Source Records

In the CA workspace, open the client’s return period. SumGST parses the uploaded transaction rows and presents side-by-side figures:

  • Working Taxable Value: The computed total prepared for your GSTR-1 return summary.
  • Source Taxable Value: The raw aggregate derived directly from client-uploaded marketplace files.
  • Difference to Review: Any discrepancy flagged for professional inspection before approval.

Tracing Figures to Underlying Evidence

Clicking any transaction row opens the underlying source evidence (e.g., Row 42 in `sales-september.xlsx`). This allows you to verify whether discounts, returns, credit notes, or tax rates explain a variance without hunting through disconnected files.

4. Return Review and Recording Filing

Preparation vs. Statutory Filing:SumGST is a review and preparation workspace. It prepares clean GSTR-1 summaries and supported exports. It does NOT automatically submit returns to the government GST Portal.

After reviewing the return readiness checks and exporting the prepared figures, your firm files the return through the GST Portal as usual. Once completed, return to SumGST and click Record GST Filed to log the filing reference and update your practice dashboard.

5. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which file formats are supported?
SumGST supports standard marketplace Excel reports (XLSX), supported marketplace ZIP archives, CSV files, and mapped sales spreadsheets. We also provide browser-based tools for converting bank statement PDFs to Excel.
  • Can one customer manage multiple GSTINs?
Yes. A single client mobile login can be linked to multiple GSTINs across different states. Records and return periods remain strictly separated for each registration.
  • Is customer confirmation the same as filing?
No. Customer confirmation simply signals that all source files for that month have been provided. CA review, approval, and subsequent filing on the GST portal remain distinct professional steps.
